Bruce Erskine was born in St. Catharines in 1937 and has been a lifetime resident and contributor to the community. He played Jr. Athletics lacrosse in 1949-1963 and played one year in Hamilton as semi-pro. In the later 1960’s he coached port lions youth lacrosse for 5 years. Erskine was a competitive athlete and won the Henley Gold 4 times (1952-1958). He began coaching in the 1970’s at Dennis Morris Catholic Secondary School. In 1972 he coached gold novice 145 Ib. Four and in 1957 he coached gold novice 135 Ib. four. His tenure a DM inspired many kids who are still coaching today across the country and around the globe. He began coaching the St. Catharines Rowing Club Recreational Rowing League in the 1980’s and became an official in the 1970’s and continued his involvement until 2005. In 2009—Bruce joined his wife Susan who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1997.
