Born in Collingwood Ontario, Helen Jenkins excelled at a number of sports during her high school days. In 1940 Helen moved to St. Catharines to work for GM and Thompson products. In 1947-1948 Helen played 1st base on Champion Teepees and the Merry Macs Softball teams. For the Thompsons Helen played basketball and was a high scorer. Due to sports injuries and a serious car accident Helen was forced to retire early from these two sports. As a member and past president of the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club, she also won many Club Golf Championships, and in 1976 was a Ontario Senior Ladies Golf Champion. In the Open and Seniors categories Helen has won the Niagara Champion of Champions Golf Championships. Twice Helen and her sister Mary Marvin won Ontario foursome play down to represent Ontario, first in St. John N.B. and then in Winnipeg, MB in Canadian Championships. On two other occasions they missed qualifying in a tiebreaker. An avid top flight curler Helen has skipped rinks to win many competitions both locally and province wide. Helen’s husband Bill Chyplik was also a sports player, and was local senior baseball star.
