BIOGRAPHY

  • Coach of Buffalo Bandits in Major Indoor Lacrosse from 1992-197. League champions in 1992, 1993, 1996. Only undefeated season in MILL/NLL history in 1993 with a 6 season record of 36 wins 13 losses.
  • In 1998, coached the Ontario Raiders in National Lacrosse League. Coach of Toronto Rock from 1999 to 2003. League champions 4 times in 5 years and a 5 season record of 51 wins 19 losses / post-season 9 wins 1 loss.
  • From 1992 to 2003 had an overall coaching record 93-38 (.709) which is second in league history. Playoff record of 18-4(.818) – the most wins of any coach in NLL history
  • Coached Canada to Gold Medal in World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in 2003.
  • Vice-President and alternate league governor for Toronto Rock in 2004-2005. In 2004, served as a NLL labor committee member and in 2005, as NLL Executive of the Year.
  • In 2006 the NLL Coach of the Year Award was renamed the Les Bartley Award. In the same year, Les was inducted as charter member of National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame.
  • In 2007, the Toronto Rock announced a new award in Les’ honor given annually to the Rock player best exemplifying Les’ emphasis on the importance of character and commitment to the team.
