Originally from St. Catharines, Calder was a two-sport athlete growing up playing lacrosse and wrestling. In 1981, he won his first 16 freestyle matches as a 14 year old Lakeport High School student. In 1987 he was the Ontario Lacrosse Association Jr. Scoring Champ and then in 1992 he won his fourth University Gold in Wrestling leading Brock University to it’s first National Championship. The former two-time Olympian and Canadian University wrestling standout came in 17th in the world in the 62kg competition in the Olympics at Barcelona 1992 , 5th in Olympic wrestling in 1993 and scored 2 thirds at the World cup and in 1996 he came in 7th at the Atlanta Olympics. Calder continued to excel in the coaching ranks as he has become one of the top coaches in Canada over the past decade for Brock University.
