Mike Martyk was called one of the greatest Canadian Boxers ever by a number of sportswriters. With 129 wins
and only 26 losses Mike Martyk had a great boxing record. Some of the most well known fights that Mike was a
part of was when he fought Willie Pep, the World Featherweight Champ in Buffalo N.Y. In addition Mike also
fought Sugar Ray Robinson at the Haig Bowl. In 1945 there was a split decision loss to Sol Bartolo, the N.B.A.
Featherweight Champ. Before turning Pro Mike was the Canadian Amateur Boxing Champion. After turning Pro
Mike barnstormed in U.S.A and the British Isles. After his boxing career came to an end Mike then ran the Thorold
Boxing Academy for a number of years.
