BIOGRAPHY

Robert Gear started his baseball career in 1961 when he played for the O.B.A. Midget B Merriton team until 1963, after which time he began playing for the Ontario O.B.A. Junior Merriton team in 1965. In 1965 Gear then signed a pro contract with the Detroit Tigers. Playing in the Florida State League in 1966, the Carolina League 1967-68, and then the Global League in 1969 as well as the Quebec Provincial Senior League in 1969. from 1970-72 Gear played in the Ontario Intermediate, Thorold League, and then 1973-75 the Niagara Peninsula Senior League, for Fort Erie. Continuing to play for the Niagara Peninsula from 1976-85, and then in the Senior League for St. Catharines from 1988-2008, as well as the Welland & St. Catharines Vintage League from 1988-2009. Robert was on a number of teams during his baseball career, proving to be an outstanding athlete during his career.
