Ronald French played basketball and football while he attended Merritton High School, winning the O.B.A. Celtics Basketball Canadian Championships in the 1950’s. Active in the Grantham Optimist Softball Organization, Ron chaired the finance committee for the Building of the Sports Complex on Linwell Road. Contributing a great deal of his time to umpiring and coaching softball from the years of 1950 to 1995, in addition to acting as a timekeeper for 20 years at the Optimist Hockey games. Ron has also been active with the St. Catahrines Standard High School Basketball tournament for 35 years, and an executive with the Cleveland A’s Jr. Basketball team for 10 years. Over the years Ronald French has donated his time to a number of sports, as well as him and his wife Muriel operating the canteen at the Grantham Optimists Youth Centre.
