The St. Catharines native played varsity hockey and junior varsity baseball at Harvard before turning his attention to office and off field pursuits.
He played a key role in the creation and execution of the 1972 hockey Summit Series between Canada and Russia and his ad agency came up with the Team Canada name and sweater.
O’Malley was a shareholder with the WHA’S Toronto Toros, named the team and provided it with marketing direction. He was a major shareholder with the St. Catharines Stompers baseball team of the New York Penn League and in 1998, he was one of the original shareholders for the Toronto Rock of the National Lacrosse League.
