Tom Garriock was inducted to the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame for the media category for his contribution to the media coverage of sports. From June 1947 to May 1990 he was on the CKTB AM Sports Show, and once said: “Small part of my life—huge part of my interest”. Over the years Tom broadcasted a number of events. Some memorable events include broadcasting the Sr. Athletics Lacrosse Mann Cup Champions, and the Opening Ceremonies at the Garden City Arena in 1938; broadcasting the Sr. A O.H.A. Hockey Saints; and the Live CBC Worldwide Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. Garriock also hosted the Sunday “Sports Talk”, and would often do ghost broadcasts of away games for lacrosse and hockey via telephone relay. The City Post Master, Tom also worked at Brewer’s Retail, McKinnon Industries, Thompson Products, and operated a 72 acre farm in Jordan. Tom Garriock was well known for his superb memory for names, dates and events, in addition to his contribution to broadcasting sports over a number of years.
